Supporting Your Kitten’s Health With Acupressure

Kittens are amazing creatures. When they play, they play with every ounce of their little beings. Their needle-like little claws propel them up the curtains in the bedroom and down the back of a couch. Kittens can scratch your antique chair that your great aunt gave you and shred your favorite plant to pieces – but we love them anyway. We look at our beloved kitten’s antics and say to ourselves, “He’s just a kitten,” and that explains it all.

Young animals are supposed to be full of life, tearing through the house and dashing around the back yard. Their bones, muscles, and neurological connections are growing by the minute. They also need lots of sleep as well as nourishing, real food. In Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), the high energy and impetus behind the exponential growth of a kitten are considered Yang. The rest, nutrients and essence used to make that growth possible is considered Yin.

The essential concept underlying TCM is that health is based on a dynamic balance between Yin and Yang. You might ask how a kitten could be healthy if he’s bounding from one extreme to the other. The reason is that kittens are supposed to be out of balance at different times because they are in such a high growth period. There are times they just have to be very Yang, and then they balance it by being very Yin. Their small growing bodies have their own form of balance and that’s the way it needs to be.

You can do an acupressure session called “Gentle Pinches” that will support and enhance whatever is going on in your kitten’s body at the time. Give it a try when your little cat when your little cat has given his all and is ready to be calm. Acupressure has a way of creating a very special bond between you and your kitten.

Gentle Pinches for Kittens

Pick a time when your kitten is relatively calm and find a location with few distractions. Take three long breaths in and out, then focus for a minute or two on your adoration of this young animal and how you want to contribute to his healthy growth.

Sit with your kitten on your lap or between your legs facing his back. Starting just behind or below his shoulder blades on each side of the spine, use your thumb and index fingers on both hands to very gently pinch his skin. Then move your hand approximately half an inch in the direction of his tail and repeat the gentle pinching. Continue to move your hands down a half inch at a time, softly pinching the skin as you go, until you reach the base of his tail. Start again, just below the kitten’s scapula, and repeat the gentle pinches on each side of his spine and down to his tail two more times.

When you have completed three cycles of gentle pinches, go back to below his scapula, with your fingers together and flat, and sweep down the kitten’s back with one hand on each side of his spine, similar to how you would brush out the wrinkles on your bed cover to make it tidy and smooth. Repeat this sweeping motion three times.

Now snuggle with your kitten and tell him how much you love him.

Taking Care of Your Joints

You are never too young or too old to start taking care of your joints. Joints play an important role while performing any type of physical activity and the healthier and more flexible they are the easier the activity is.

Practicing good posture is vital because posture affects your entire body and bad posture can put unnecessary stress on your joints including joints in your neck, back, hips, and knees. Hold your head up as if you have a glass of water on top of your head. Remember to suck in your stomach, lift your chin and pull your shoulders back. Properly fitting shoes make good posture easier and high heels cause incredible strain on your joints.

Essential oils such as Omega-3 fatty acids found in fish have been shown to help joint pain by increasing anti-inflammatory prostaglandins that help control inflammation.

Take a glucosamine supplement daily. Glucosamine, which is made up of glucose and the amino acid glutamine, actually helps repair damaged articular joint tissue. It aids in the production of more proteoglycans which are responsible for forming a protective netting within the articular cartilage, which helps prevent its destruction.

Consume vitamin C and E. Vitamins C and E are very important to immune and skin properties but they also promote good joint health? A regular intake of these two vitamins has been proven to slow the rate of cartilage degeneration and maintain overall joint function.

One of the best ways is to keep our joints healthy is to do weight training exercises. Weight training builds muscle and helps support the joints so that the joints don’t have to do all the work. Stretching is also beneficial and keeps joints flexible. Make exercise a priority. You’ll be able to reduce soreness and pain in joints, but in addition you will improve your general flexibility. You can also strengthen muscles through exercise.

It’s hard on joints to bear more weight than necessary, therefore, what we weigh matters. Carrying around extra weight can cause cartilage breakdown around your joints. Just 10 pounds of extra weight puts 5 times the added stress on your joints. So 10 pounds of extra weight is like 50 pounds to your joints. Find out what your healthy weight is and follow a fitness and diet plan to reach it.

Cat Breeding Cycle

Cat breeding cycle is very important to understand. As the trend of having a pet is gaining popularity, people are looking at it from business perspective. So it is important to understand the information from basics.

First of all keep it in mind that breeding is not carried out to have kittens for enjoyment sake. The kittens should be healthy. So cat care is very important. Treat the cat queen with great care during the cat pregnancy period. Take care of her nutrition, cat illnesses. Her delivery, post delivery care of the kittens is equally important. Then only you will be in a position to find a good home for the kitten.

Cat Breeding Cycle
When a female cat is ready to mate, it is commonly said that the female cat is on heat. At this time the behavioral changes are noticed in them are, they yell in loud cries to attract male. The cats stoop and crawl with shortened legs. The cats spray too.

Now the next indication of the breeding cycle is the female rubs herself against furniture or you. She raises the back portion of the body in air and generates the appealing noise.

Some noticeable bodily changes are seen such as the external part of the genital organ gets swollen and some secretion is discharged through it.
It is observed that the outdoor cats undergo the mating cycle twice a year, i.e. spring and early fall season. In case of indoor cats, the mating season is noticed every few weeks throughout the year unless and until she is bred. Any one will find this fact quite amazing. The reason behind it is, the temperature at home is more or less same throughout the year and artificial light may resemble sunlight in spring and summer.
If the cat mating season is too frequent, it affects her health up to great extent as the cat will not eat during those days and will become considerably weak.
If the cat already has the kittens do not bred her immediately. If you do not want your queen cat to be pregnant at that particular time, then you have to impound her.

As far as male cats are concerned, it is not recommended to use a pet cat for mating. As they tend to fight and spray. If you still want to bread the male cat with the pet queen, then neuter the cat so that the strong smell of the urine is reduced.

Always remember one thing that does not breed unless and until you own fit and strong animals with ultimate breeding characteristics.

Age Factor for Cat Breeding
It is very important that the queen cat attains her adult size before breeding. If not all her energy is consumed into feeding the kittens and her growth is hampered. The required age for breeding is 18-24 months of her age. In case of male cats, the permissible age for breeding should be 18 months.

Health Check- ups Prior Breeding
cat pregnancy is very important look out as the disorders in the parents get genetically transferred to the off springs. So it is recommended to carry out the check up for vaccinations, internal parasites. They should be free from ear mites, ring worms and fleas. Both the male and female cat should be tested for genetically transferred conditions such as poly cystic kidney disease, hip dysplasia, heart troubles etc.

Information of Cat Pet Training

Cat Pet Training

Many people think that it is impossible to train cat. However, it is possible in fact. There are some basic tips to fix the madness safely and easily.

Cat obedience is very important. To have less stress in your life with a kitty that doesn’t meow constantly, jump on the counters, scratch up all your furniture, or use the carpet instead of their litter box, cat pet training is a must!

Training your cat

Some great benefits when training your cat.

Well, it will actually make you two closer, and understand each other better. Your kitty will want to please you and make you happy. It may be only because they want treats instead of being scolded, but either way, you both win.

If it is behavior problems that you are dealing with, training your cat to fix these problems now will be the best thing for you and your little furry friend. In less you like your furniture scratched up, bite marks and scratches on your arms, meowing constantly or marking their territory on the carpet, then that’s fine with me 😉

Maybe it’s cat tricks you are interested in, so you can show them off to friends and family. Training your cat to do tricks can actually be really fun and a great bonding experience. Felines can learn almost anything dogs can, but my most favorite is when kitties actually learn how to use the toilet instead of a litter box. Now that is absolutely amazing! I would love that!

Cat Training Tips

Here is a list of cat training tips that WILL help…

Tip #1

-Treats! Always use treats when your little friend does something good. You absolutely have to have treats when teaching tricks or your kitty will never be interested. They think they are just way to cool for that.

Tip #2

-Patience. Just like with any animal, you must be very patient when training your cat.

Tip #3

-Practice makes perfect! To not overwhelm, try sticking with just 10 to 15 minutes, once or twice a day. Felines can be easily side tracked and even if you try to train them for longer, it wont work. Trust me 🙂

Tip #4

-Persistence. Try training your cat as often as possible. If you can I would try to do it every day. The more you practice they gets, the faster they will learn.

Tip #5

-Spray bottle. This technique works great for me. I have taught my fur balls to not jump on the kitchen table, climb the curtains, or scratch my couches by catching them in the act and spraying them with my spray bottle. Remember to have the bottle on the straight stream and only spray them when you catch them in the act, or they will not know what then did wrong.

Tip #6

Make sure to always have toys for your kitty to play with and something to scratch on. A scratch post will always work but i personally think that they like cat trees so they can be up tall. Remember to show them what it is for and they will be less likely to use your furniture.

-Trick training tools and environment
-Leash training
-Toilet training
-Picking a pet, breads, and bringing a kitty home

Complete Cat Training book has a list of all the common behavioral problems that kitties just love to do. I have only had this book for about a week and I have already stopped my fur balls from jumping on the kitchen counter, peeing on the carpet and charging at the door. They are not perfect at the whole charging at the door thing but they are extremely better at staying and only leaving when I say it is okay. You must keep a sharp eyes on them though because they are sneaky sneaky.

Next, the tricks! There are 26 different tricks covered in the book. They are split into basic tricks and tricky tricks. There are pictures to look at if you get confused and it also gives you a list of tools to use to make cat pet training a heck of alot easier.

But that is not all! Yes there is more if you can believe it. There also is a section on toilet training so you can finally throw out that nasty litter box. Then there is the leash training section. I think this section is perfect for people who have an indoor pet. To take them for walks outside is completely different but would be a pretty interesting adventure to share.

Bonus Books! This was actually one of my favorite parts of buying this book. The first book was The Essential Cat Recipe book that comes with 100 different recipes for your best friend. The next book is The Ultimate Guide to Pampering Your Cat. It is a 48 page book giving you different things you can do to pamper them and make you two closer.

Overall, Complete Cat Training Book has worked wonders for me. There is a 2 month money back guarantee so you have nothing to lose. I have definitely learned how to understand my kitties better, and to stop them from tearing up my house. FINALLY!

Taking Care of Your Preemie

taking care cat
by DDFic

It is a wonderful time to be cherished when a birth of a baby takes place. It is meant to be a joyful time for the new mom and dad as well as family and friends. When that little one decides to come into the world before its time or is not up to weight at birth then there is real cause for concern for everyone involved.

It is particularly stressful on the mom. She has just gone through the strenuous job of delivering the baby . Then to have a preemie baby on top of this is traumatic to say the least. In many ways its hard on the Dad as well. He is there to protect his family and he feels helpless.

One thing that is important is to realize that the medical profession literally works miracles with preemies nowadays. You will begin to relax as each day passes and you see your little one growing and gaining strength.

Then that wonderful day comes that you are able to bring your baby home. All of a sudden, the fears, concerns and stress start to seep in. Up until now, your little one has been in the expert care of many Doctors and health care teams. Now the responsibility is becoming totally yours and your partner.

To begin with rest assured that the medical staff would not be letting your little one come home unless they felt it was perfectly safe.

Most likely the baby is up to full term weight so there is really no difference now then if you had gone full term with the birth. There are no doubt things that you may have to do differently with the preemie then you would do with a full term baby. More frequent feedings may be one aspect and extra caution that the baby is not exposed to germs and illnesses for the next little while.

The Doctor will give any extra care or instructions to you. If there are, any procedures that you must carry out at home then you will be fully trained on how to do them.

Perhaps if you are still unsure of yourself you could ask one of your parents to stay with you for a few days until you gain your confidence. You will find after a few days that both you and the baby will fit into a natural routine. You have waited a long time to enjoy your baby so now is the time.

Training a Kitten

So you’ve brought home a fluffy bundle of love. She’s just gotten all her shots, and has been given a clean bill of health. You even have plans to make sure she gets fixed in a few weeks. She’s bright-eyed and energetic (even when you would wish for her to settle down at 2 o’clock in the morning!), and happy as a clam. She has all the toys she could want, and you even have a cat tree on back order for her when she gets big enough to use it. Sounds idyllic to the cat fancying types, doesn’t it?

And then she starts misbehaving. Either she tears around the house, knocking things over, steals stuff and starts destroying the furniture and generally shatters the equilibrium of the home. Stop right there. Some of you may be thinking that pets, especially young ones, must be treated like their human counterparts. This isn’t so. Far too many owners try to treat their pets like humans, and it just doesn’t go over well at all. If you want to engender obedience in sweet Fluffy, there are some things you should take to heart when attempting to train her. Also bear in mind that unlike dogs, cats don’t typically go for ‘Do x because of y’ routine. They will usually ignore such methods, frustrating you and probably upsetting them.

When she behaves rambunctiously, she’s doing so because she’s probably bored or lonely, not necessarily malicious or evil. She is attempting to act out instinctual predatory behaviors. It’s up to you to help guide her in the right direction. Go down to her level, play with her, provide toys and interaction – don’t just leave toys for her to explore on her own. At that age, not only are you fostering positive experiences for her, the bonding will help ensure that she stays safe in the home, knowing in whom she can rely for comfort, love and nourishment. If you want her to do something, you must reinforce the thing with stimuli she’ll find pleasant. The inverse isn’t necessarily true. You ‘should’ help her understand that certain things will manifest an unpleasant result, but, for instance, if she comes meowing and romping at 2 a.m., don’t chase her and let her outside or feed/play with her then. This is more then likely exactly what she wants, so she’ll assume, despite your yelling, that she has done a good thing.

If Fluffy is prone to tearing up the furniture, there are few things you can do to bring about a positive result. First, you have to accept that she ‘will’ stretch, climb and scratch. These are all natural activities for a cat, and things they greatly enjoy doing. In the short term, confining her to a small area, while providing things for her to scratch that ‘are’ safe will suffice. Hanging scratch pads, made of either cork or sisal on your door knobs is one way to encourage her to scratch, just do so appropriately. In the long term, you should monitor what she gets into, and not let her have unsupervised access to the house until you’re comfortable she isn’t going to turn your $ 900 leather sofa into confetti.

These are only a few examples of the trials and tribulations that you may face with your darling Fluffy. But, if you treat her right, reinforcing positive behavior with good things, and misbehavior with gentle yet firm negative reinforcement, she will come to understand and adapt, as all well-mannered cats do. Bearing that in mind, you’re sure to spend years and years together.

When all else fails, a spray bottle is inexpensive and says what you sometimes can’t, especially at 3 o’clock in the morning.

Cats and Kittens – Ways For Taking Care of the Kittens

The health of the Cat and Kitten must be attended to; the kitten must be seen by a veterinarian. The veterinarian will examine the health of the kitten to see if the kitten has parasites or any disease. Newborn kittens can have vaccination if they reach eight to nine weeks old.

If the mother cat is nursing the kitten, you do not have to feed your Cat and Kitten . But when the mother cat is not around to feed the kitten, you have to give food to the kitten. In the first ten days of the lives of kittens, they have closed eye, therefore a syringe is needed in feeding your pet.

You nourish your pet by following the procedure in the box based on the weight of your pet. The food of kitten is not the same as the food of adult cat; it has a particular formula which has high fats and protein. The food has to be very digestible and plenty of nutrients. Kittens need soaked food because this is easy to digest. Newborn kittens are not capable to hold dry food; however, the kitten can be able to handle it when the kitten reaches eight weeks old.

Give food to your pet ten to twelve times a day or one serving every 2 hours. Do not give cow’s milk to the kitten; this can cause indigestion or diarrhea. The teeth of the kitten start growing around two weeks. After three weeks, you can begin to give your pet a bowl for its food and your pet how to make use of it.

Newborn kittens are not capable to defecate with no help. The mother cat helps kittens in eliminating food through the licking of their rectum. If the mother cat is not present, make use of a wet cloth and rub the stomach and rectum of the Cat and Kitten to induce bowel movement. During this age, kittens are not capable to use trash box where to urinate, so you have to clean them.

The behavior of the cats can be determined during their first week of existence. If your kitten is together with its mother cat and brothers/sisters, the kitten will be able to learn playing and socializing with them. However, if your pet is alone, you have to cuddle and play with the kitten in order to develop a close association with the pet. The kitten usually begins to stand up at around two to three weeks, and will begin to play at three to four weeks.

Things that you need for the new kittens:

· Sleeping box; baby cats spend plenty of time in sleeping, therefore you have to give a hot, comfortable box for them to sleep. The room wherein the box is placed must be warm, since kittens are not capable to maintain a standard temperature and they may experience hypothermia that may be fatal.

· Blankets and also towels in keeping the kitten hot.

· Special recipe kitten food

· Paper or soft toys

· Litter box

· Food bowls

· Water bowls

· Toys

Taking Care of Brassia Orchids

Brassia orchids are epiphytic plants that can be found in some of the West Indian islands as well as some parts of America. Named after a prominent plant-life illustrator, the best thing about these odd-looking plants is probably the wonderful smell of their delicately fragranced blossoms.

The Brassia is nicknamed the Spider Orchid due to the characteristic shape of its flowers. Varieties come in pleasing pastel colours, accentuated with brown highlights which do make them look remarkably similar to their namesakes. Like virtually all orchids, members of this family are fairly easy to care for if you follow the tips below and try to accommodate for just a few simple requirements.

Pick a perfect pot

As with all orchids, the pot in which your Brassia is housed will have a huge effect on its well-being so choose wisely. Ideally, select a natural, porous material which will prevent the planting matter from becoming too waterlogged.

Good ventilation to the roots is also an important requirement so the container should have a well aerated base, possibly with slits in the sides too.

The planting matter should be of a type that is specifically formulated for orchids rather than just regular compost and will usually consist of many substances including bark and moss. You should be prepared to re-pot in fresh medium every two to three years to prevent root rot.

Get the illumination right

Making sure your plant gets adequate light is absolutely essential, but you need to remember that orchids are very prone to sunburn. Take care to protect them from direct, unfiltered sunshine by using a shade or curtain or simply just choosing your location wisely.

If providing enough illumination is an issue then think about relocating the Brassia or perhaps investing in a daylight simulating fluorescent lamp; fairly pricey but other plants may benefit from it too.

Turn up the temperature

Remember, these orchids originate from a tropical habitat so will need temperatures in the 65 to 75 degree range in order to survive indoors. Allowing a reduction in the overnight temperature to no less than 55 to 60 degrees will also be necessary. To encourage re-flowering, provide a similarly cool environment during the orchids resting period between early autumn and late winter.

Think before watering

Although this type does like a little more water than other varieties, you should still water sparingly and only after you have checked the dampness of the planting matter. Take care not to let this become over-desiccated; it should fell just damp to the touch before you re-hydrate.

Boost the humidity

This variety is used to steamy surroundings so create as much humidity as possible by positioning humidifiers or soaked pebbles close by. Placing the container on a stand over a tray of water is also an option as long as you ensure that the water does not seep into the pot and damage the roots.

Don’t forget the fertiliser

Brassias require more feeding than many other orchid varieties and your plant will benefit from being doused with a weak nitrogen based preparation every seven days. You can go a little easier on the fertiliser during the plant’s dormant stage.

Rest assured that it is actually quite difficult to kill an orchid through lack of attention as they pretty much like to be left to their own devices. Provided you get the fundamentals right, you should find the Brassia orchid to be a very low maintenance and a very unusual looking addition to your plant family.
